The Bulk-Order & Multi-Buy Playbook

The Bulk-Order & Multi-Buy Playbook

When you're buying more than a couple of pieces — a full season refresh, a holiday wardrobe, or matching looks for a group — the rules of saving flip. The biggest percentage code is often no longer the winner. On bigger baskets, bundles and thresholds take over.

Quick takeaway: On large orders, tiered multi-buy deals and 2-for bundles usually beat a flat percentage code, and they layer with delivery and gift tiers a percentage can't. Build the basket around the bundle first, then add a single code only if it still helps.

Why big baskets change the maths

A percentage code is only ever a slice of the price. A bundle or a spend-threshold deal, by contrast, sets an outcome — two for a fixed price, the cheapest free, a flat sum off once you cross a line. As the basket grows, those fixed-outcome deals compound while a percentage stays a flat share. Past a handful of items, the bundle route routinely pulls ahead.

That's the whole insight behind bulk buying at PLT: stop thinking ‘what's the biggest percentage’ and start thinking ‘which structure fits this basket’.

The bulk-order build order

Sequence matters even more on a big order. Here's the playbook:

  1. Anchor on the strongest multi-buy. A 3-for-2 or a 2-for-$40 sets your base price before anything else touches the bag.
  2. Fill past the delivery line. Big baskets clear it easily, but confirm delivery reads free before you go further.
  3. Trip the gift and spend tiers. Thresholds like a flat $50 or $60 off above a spend line, or a free tote or mini bag, attach automatically on a large order.
  4. Add one code only if it still wins. On top of a strong bundle, a separate percentage often can't layer — so compare, and keep it only if the total actually drops.

Group orders and matching looks

Buying for several people multiplies the advantage. Consolidate into one basket rather than several small ones so you clear the highest spend tier and the biggest gift threshold in a single go. Matching co-ords and repeated basics are perfect multi-buy fodder — the bundle doesn't care that three people will wear them.

Don't forget the returns math

Bulk orders mean sizes you haven't tried. A first free return label softens that, but plan for it: order the sizes you're unsure of together, keep the receipt on the free-return window, and factor a likely send-back into which delivery option you pick. And when you genuinely can't tell whether the bundle or a code wins, drop both totals into the homepage calculator and let the numbers decide — the same trick from our combining guide.
